Illinois showed why they are the
#2 team in the country as the jumped to a 2-0 lead in the
1st period. But as the 2nd stanza got underway the Wolves
showed their grit as Shawn Wilson scored a nice goal off an
outlet pass by Tony Rini and a perfect pass by Steve Popp.
The UM-D team outplayed one of the best teams in the land
for the period, but what had become an unappreciated habit,
a mental letdown during the final 1:20 of the period allowed
Illinois to take control of the game and take the steam out
for the Wolves as they went to the locker room. While they
played a spirited 3rd period the Wolves could not muster the
offense to overtake Illinois and one of the top netminders
in the ACHA.
